THE SAMPLE RUN POWER PLANT The Clearfield Bituminous Coal Corporation built a Central Power Plant above Second Sample Run with generating capacity to supply enough electricity to Corporation mines. (Three turbo units generated 5,500 kilowatts.) High voltage transmission lines carried power, via sub-stations, to other mines in addition to the Sample Run Mine (although it is not known which and how many mines). Chief engineer at the power plant was John Warden assisted by John Kirkman. As mentioned, power was derived from water in the Sample Run Reservoir. Today, what remains of the main plant building houses Braughler's Welding Shop.
