THE SAMPLE RUN TRAIL

In the year 2003, members of the Clymer Borough obtained government funds for the "Sample Run Project." Since then a paved trail has been constructed starting at Lee Park on Lee Street. The trail then crosses Sixth Street and Dixon Run and just passes by the old streetcar station. It then curves behind Hub Little League Field. Following the path of the old railroad and streetcar tracks, the trail parallels Two-Lick Creek and Franklin Street. It then passes behind the old Roller Rink building and parallels Route 286 all the way to the Sample Run Recreational Area. The trail winds through meadows and verdant forested areas and is reserved for strollers, joggers, bicyclists, and skate boarders. Follow this link to see the in progress and finished pictures

The old railroad tracks as well as a streetcar and the old streetcar tracks can be see in this photo from 1909. The area in this photo is not far behind where Stony Bank Restaurant is today. Photo courtesy of John Busovlcki.

When the tracks were removed between Sample Run and Clymer, only the remnants of a weedy path act as a reminder that there were railroad tracks there once as the following photo shows.
