THE FOLLOWING PHOTOS WERE
CONTRIBUTED BY VIOLET WARD KROMER Violet's parents were Richard Ward and Goldie Mae Chapman (who married in 1904). Goldie Mae was the daughter of James Chapman (1861-1957) and Catherine Matilda Sample (1867-1937). James and Catherine married in 1883. And as mentioned earlier, Catherine was the daughter of Samuel Sample (1824-1909) and Barbara Ann Lambertson (1837-1908). As it turns out, Violet is one of the descendants of the original Samples from whom Sample Run was named. Violet was born in Clymer in 1920, and she says her family moved to the country near Sample Run in 1926. They lived in a big house located just before the Sample Run Mine. Violet lived in Sample Run until around 1939 when she married Melvin (Hank) Kromer, and they moved to Indiana, Pennsylvania. Violet now resides near Niagara Falls, New York.
