Let
me just compliment you on your Clymer PA site. I
was just sent a link to your site from one of my relatives and I have
to say it is fantastic.
My
Great Grandfather Andrew Gall’s tombstone is shown on the mine
explosion page. I am
sending two pictures. One
is of Andrew, in fact it is the same picture that is actually on the
stone itself (although that image has faded and has never been
replaced) The second is of his widow Mary Timko
Gaul (the spelling changed from Gall to Gaul after Andrew died but
before Mary died)
She is buried in the same cemetery (Church of the
Resurrection in Sample Run)
I
would be honored if you could post these on your site.
PS
I don’t know if you’re interested in this bit of info but
here goes. Andrew
Gall’s sister (I believe her name was Mary) was married Jozsef
Toth who also died in the explosion and is
buried in the Greek Orthodox cemetery next to the Roman Catholic
cemetery where Andrew is buried.

Hi! I am Lynne Gaul, married to
Thomas M. Gaul, grandson of Andy Gall, who is listed on your web
page. However, I'm not contacting you about Andy; rather about
Paul Capek. I think he is my sister's grandfather-in-law.
Can you tell me how to get to the cemetery where he is buried?
I'm not sure if he is in the same cemetery as the rest. They
were Catholic, I know, but I didn't see the photo on your site.
I will gladly take a trip over to see if I can get you a photo of
the gravestone and some info if it is the right Capek. As with
many of the names, it is spelled differently now: "Sopic." His
son, Joseph, and grandson live next door to me in
Curwensville.
Thanks for all you have done.
Lynne
Andrew Gall would be my great grandfather.
It's crazy to look at this site and see pictures of them. The
only pictures I've seen of the both of them are the ones on their
headstones at the cemetery. Thank you for posting these and thank
whomever sent them to you for me.

Pavel (Paul) Capek (Sopic) is indeed
my neighbor's father. Small world...
The Capek family only lived in Clymer
for a couple of months. My sister talked to her father-in-law,
Joe (Paul's son), for a while yesterday and found out a few things:
1) Paul's son was waiting for work
at the mine for a while and was finally called to start the Monday
following the explosion. Lucky guy, I guess.
2) Paul is buried in Brisbin, PA,
where his family was rooted. My sister and I are planning a
trip there next week and should be able to find the gravesite and
take a photo for your website.
3) Paul's son, Joe, is my sister's
father-in-law and lives with her and her husband. Joe is 91
years old and his wife, Virginia, is 88. They have lived in
Curwensville most of their lives. Joe is still extremely sharp
but a little hard of hearing. My sister talked to him about
the website and the explosion; he was about 12 years old and
remembers it pretty well; however, it seems to bring back pretty bad
memories, so he doesn't really enjoy talking about it much,
understandably.
4) The spelling of the name
"Capek" has been changed three ways within the family.
Joe's family goes by Sopic; others go by Copchek or Copek.
Even the name "Capek" was not spelled correctly, as the
original name was something like "Capczek," or a variation
of that. I believe the family was from Czechoslavakia.
According to Joe, the family was only there for a brief period of
time because of the availability of work in the mine.
I will try to get more info and put it
together in an article of sorts for you. You seem to have done
so much work so far, it's the least I can do. I'll also try to
get some family photos. It is rather fascinating for my sister
and me, since Andy Gall, my grandfather-in-law, and Pavel Capek, my
sister's grandfather-in-law, died in the same mining accident even
though none of us live in Clymer. Also...to be neighbors at
this point is extremely unique.
Thank you for all you have done...I will
check back with you later when I get more info...
Lynne
P.S. Could you possibly send me a
copy of the coroner report on Paul?
Hi Lynne
I wish I could give you
directions, but I went to all the graveyards in that area and
could not find Paul. The photos that are on the site are from the
Sample Run and the Catholic cemetery and one other that is there.
I am going back to Clymer for the centennial this year, if you are
going please let me know would love to meet you. I have the news
paper clippings of the mine disaster as we as the coroners reports
on Paul and Andy, I just looked at the 1920 and 1930 Clymer census
and can not find Capek, do you know were he lived?
I would love to have any information
on all of your relatives, I provide a webpage for the families of
the men killed at Sample Run on 26 Aug 1926, my Grand father was
one, if you supply the information I will make yours look like the
Hetrick page. If you have not looked at the hetrick page please do
so, just click on the Hetrick grave stone. It is not complete yet
but it will give you an idea of what it will look like.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
